7 Habits of Highly Effective People Summary

What's Trending

Inspired by Dr Stephen Covey’s international bestseller – 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People®, at I Concept, we believe in cultivating a highly effective working environment within our team to deliver result-oriented web solutions and digital marketing solutions to all our clients.

Below is a quick summary:

HABIT 1: BE PROACTIVE

This is the ability to control one’s environment, rather than have it control you, as is so often the case. Self determination, choice, and the power to decide response to stimulus, conditions and circumstances.

1. Start replacing reactive language with proactive language.

Reactive = “He makes me so mad.”
Proactive = “I control my own feelings.”

2. Convert reactive tasks into proactive ones.

HABIT 2: BEGIN WITH THE END IN MIND

In everything we do, we should begin with the end in mind. Start with a clear destination. That way, we can make sure the steps we’re taking are in the right direction.

By developing the habit of concentrating on relevant activities you will build a platform to avoid distractions and become more productive and successful.

HABIT 3: PUT FIRST THINGS FIRST

This is about organising and implementing activities in line with the aims established in habit 2. We must put first things first where we prioritize our day-to-day actions based on what is most important, not what is most urgent.

In order to maintain the discipline and the focus to stay on track toward our goals, we need to have the willpower to do something when we don’t want to do it. We need to act according to our values rather  than our desires or impulses at any given moment.

As Stephen Covey says, “the key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.”

HABIT 4: THINK WIN-WIN

We must commit to creating Win-Win situations that are mutually beneficial and satisfying to each party as achievements are largely dependent on co-operative efforts with others. Covey says that win-win is based on the assumption that there is plenty for everyone, and that success follows a co-operative approach more naturally than the confrontation of win-or-lose.

To solve for Win-Win situations, we must maintain an abundance mentality, which is the paradigm that there is plenty out there for everybody.

HABIT 5: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD

This is Covey’s habit of communication – simple but extremely powerful. Covey helps to explain this in his simple analogy ‘diagnose before you prescribe’. Simple and effective, and essential for developing and maintaining positive relationships in all aspects of life.

HABIT 6: SYNERGIZE

By understanding and valuing the differences in another person’s perspective, we have the opportunity to create synergy, which allows us to uncover new possibilities through openness and creativity.

This allows us to pool our desires with those of the other person or group. And then we’re not on opposite sides of the problem – we’re together on one side, looking at the problem, understanding all the needs, and working to create a third alternative that will meet them.

HABIT 7: SHARPEN THE SAW

This is the habit of self renewal, says Covey, and it necessarily surrounds all the other habits, enabling and encouraging them to happen and grow. Covey interprets the self into four parts: the spiritual, mental, physical and the social/emotional, which all need feeding and developing.

There are four dimensions of our nature, and each must be exercised regularly, and in balanced ways:

  • Physical dimension: exercise your body in a way that will enhance your capacity to work, adapt, and enjoy.
  • Spiritual dimension: provide leadership to your life and reinforce commitment to your value system.
  • Mental dimension: continue expanding your mind.
  • Social / emotional dimension: develop meaningful relationships.

Conclusion:

Implementing the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People into I Concept’s working culture has helped us achieved sustained superior results and make us the industry leader. Contact us today and let us carry out your web solutions and digital marketing projects.
